Knights Temple Grove

Year 6

Pupils in Year 6 complete their primary school learning with the final stages of the Key Stage 2 curriculum. They also work towards KS2 SATS in the summer term.  Pupils and parents will receive support and guidance for the SATS.

Welcome from Year 6

Autumn Term 2

It has been a wonderful start to the academic year and a privilege seeing your children everyday eager and willing to learn. We are thoroughly looking forward to the second half of this term especially as we begin the countdown to Christmas.  In year 6, we are looking forward to the term ahead.  We will continue to embed our understand of the school values – Aspiration, Achievement, Mutual Respect, Self-Discipline and Personal Responsibility - in our pursuit to be masters of our learning and effective citizens in our community. This term, our topic will be: “Where do we live?” in which we will be learning about Grove Park, Lewisham and the history of the area.

Our topic for this term is ‘Where do we live?’

 

During this half term, in geography, we’ll be learning about population and the impact it has on the environment and on people's lives.

In history, we’ll learn about the history of London, Lewisham and Grove Park and how it has changed. We will also explore significant events that contributed to the adaptations in the area and significant people who lived or grew up in Grove Park.

Spring Term 1

It has been a wonderful start to the second half of the term and a privilege seeing Upper Key Stage 2 adapting to the change.  We are thoroughly looking forward to heading in the Spring Term with the same love of learning that we have seen thus far.  We are all looking forward to the term ahead.  We will continue to embed our understand of the school values – Aspiration, Achievement, Mutual Respect, Self-Discipline and Personal Responsibility - in our pursuit to be masters of our learning and effective citizens in our community.  This term, our topic will be: “How significant the Monarchy?” We will be exploring all information related to the “Tudors”, for us to understand how significant changes made by the monarchy have affected the lifestyle of many British people today.

We are also very happy to information that this term the children will be learning how to play the ukuleles. They have the amazing opportunity to be taught by a music specialist who will help and guide them to become fantastic ukulele players.

How significant are the monarchy; The Tudors’

 

During this half term, in history, we’ll be learning about the Tudors and the importance of Henry VIII, his wives and the Church of England. We will be exploring the people and significant events which occurred during the Tudors period and how certain events changed the key churches and religion in the United Kingdom.

Spring 2

Our topic for this term is

‘What did explorers discover in the polar regions?’

This half term, we’ll identify the Polar Regions, comparing the Arctic and Antarctic. We’ll then find out more about them using non-fiction books, globes and maps and also learn most of the technical vocabulary. When we’re more familiar with the Polar Regions, we’ll learn about some of the brave explorers like Sir Ernest Shackleton and Robert Falcon Scott and how their expeditions across the snowy lands lead to great discoveries about the coldest parts of our world. We’ll write exciting diary entries, stories and non-chronological reports about the Polar Regions.

PE reminders

All classes will be learning how to play Tennis and dance. Please remember that a full school PE kit should come into school on Mondays and they are to be taken home on Friday.

Cherry class have PE on Thursday (inside PE).
Mulberry class have PE on Monday (outside PE) and Tuesday (inside PE).
Pine class have PE on Monday (outside PE) and Tuesday (inside PE).

Home learning

Information about home learning is sent with this newsletter. In addition to this, please read with your child for at least 20 minutes per day and practise their times tables.
